Product Description & Reviews
As harpsichordist, conductor and musical director of the ensemble Les Talens Lyriques, Christophe Rousset is one of today's finest interpreters of Baroque music. On this Aparté release he leads his ensemble and a dream cast featuring baritone Stéphane Degout in Francois Couperin's cantata Ariane consolée par Bacchus. Couperin came from a dynasty of musicians very much in the public eye, starting with the beginning of the reign of Louis XIV. Although he was called Couperin le Grand and chosen personally by the Sun King, France quickly forgot him after his death. However, the Germans, following J.S. Bach, would consider him the most accomplished expression of French genius in the 18th century and the dynasty would long live on.
